Dundee, NY/Woodhull, NY: The Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance made stops four and five this past weekend. Race four of the series’ season was at the proclaimed “Baddest Dirt Track on the Planet” Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, New York. With 22 cars signed in for the nights event, it was anticipated to be a good, exciting event. It has been five years since the last time the IMCA modifieds were at the facility.
Three heat races presented by Lacey Maryott Century 21 Signature Properties took to the track. Fans saw Jakub Ingram take the win in heat 1 over veteran driver Gary Roberts, and Brad Delamater. Heat two Keith Lamphere in his Lamphere Truck Parts 98k saw the checkers over eventual feature winner Rodney Morgan and Jacob McConnell. When the third and final heat race made the call to the track. Outside pole starter Matt Roberts battled with Charlie Fulton for the top spot. Roberts prevailed in the battle to collect the heat win, followed by Fulton, and Dalton Maynard.
Feature time saw all 22 drivers making the call for the twenty five lap race. Pole sitter Brad Delamater brought the crowd to the Matthews Trucking green flag and jumped out to the early lead, enduring a caution on lap 4 when the 613 of Matt Roberts made contact with the back stretch wall in a three wide battle for third place. When the green flag dropped Delamater remained the leader until Rodney Morgan powered his way passed taking the lead on lap seven. Morgan showed the way to the checker flag, capturing the $1,510.10 paycheck. Keith Lamphere, Tyler Belcher, Earl Zimmer, and Jakub Ingham rounded out the top 5.
The Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance then traveled a hour south of Dundee, New York’s Outlaw Speedway and made their first of two appearances at the Bullring of Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, New York. Seventeen drivers and cars made the haul for night two of the weekend and the 5th Annual Sean Lias Memorial Race. On top of the series race, the night’s event would be for track points.
When the Lacey Maryott Century 21 Signature Properties heat races hit the track. Heat 1 was won by Rodney Morgan, who continued his winning from the night before. He was followed by Jay McConnell and Shawn Bruce. Heat 2 saw Brad Delamater, Mike Wilcox, Tyler Belcher, and Earl Zimmer battle for the top spot for the opening 4 laps. Delamater held off the other three competitors to claim the heat win, followed by Wilcox, and Belcher.
Morgan, Jay McConnell, Delamater, and Wilcox qualified for the Dash 4 Cash four lap race presented by Murphy’s Pizza. Delamater battled with McConnell for the first two laps and would settle into the lead taking the checkers for the Dash.
All seventeen drivers made the call for the Sean Lias Memorial 25 lap feature presented by Chasin Dreams Transport and Lubic Sales and Marketing. Shawn Bruce and Earl Zimmer brought the field to the Matthew’s Trucking green flag. Zimmer jumped out to the early lead. He showed the way for the first three circuits until Rodney Morgan powered by him on lap four. Morgan showed the way until mother nature brought out the caution on lap 13. The field was sent off the track while the rain shower passed. Once cleared, the field came back to the track for the remaining 12 laps. Morgan continued to dominate the feature event taking the checkers for night two and goes back to back with friday night’s feature. Morgan was followed by fellow Alpha Chassis Earl Zimmer and Shawn Bruce. Jakub Ingram and Mike Wilcox rounded out the top 5.
