After a disappointing cancelation to the scheduled first race of two at the famed Selinsgrove Speedway due to safety issues from the heat and the chance for severe weather. The Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance got their second scheduled race in and it didn’t disappoint. The series was the support class to the 410 sprints as they ran their finale for Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweeks. Sixteen cars and teams made the trip to Selinsgrove, but at the end of the heat races, fourteen made the feature call.
Midosa USA LTD Heat one was first to hit the track for the schedule event after the 410 time trials. Jared Spalding in his Alpha Chassis 11 and potential heat one winner and heat winner Keith Jack Lamphere in his Lamphere Truck Parts 98k would lead the field to the green flag. Lamphere would put his car put front and not look back. Leading flag to flag, Lamphere would collect the $100 bonus for his efforts, while Spalding collecting second, followed by Rodney Morgan, Jason Bulter, and Tyler Stoddard would round out the top five.
Misoda USA LTD Heat two would wait for three sprint heats before Brad Delamater and Jakub Ingham lead the field of eight to the green. Ingham would jump out to the lead and look like he was going to walk away with the second heat win. Unfortunately mechanical failure to his engine coming out of turn two heading down the back stretch coming to the checkers, giving the lead and heat two win to James Lamphere. Tyler Blecher finishes second, followed by Jacob McConnell, Brad Delamater, and Brad Chilson.
After the 30 lap 410 feature, the 89 of Rodney Morgan and the 777 machine of Jacob McConnell would bring the 14 car field to the green flag. Morgan took off with the lead when the green flag dropped. Morgan looked to be the dominant car throughout the feature event only being challenged for the lead by fellow Alpha Chassis driver Jared Spalding. Morgan with two laps to go in the event, gave up the lead to the Lamphere’s Truck Parts 98k of Keith Jack Lamphere. Lamphere then pulled away and collected his first series win of the season. Morgan finished second, followed by Spalding, Force Flow Pressure Services Hard Charger Brandon Smith, and James Lamphere rounding out the top five for the event. Next race for the Close Racing Supply NY/Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Insinger Performance is Saturday, July 13th for the second annual Billy Ward Memorial. The series will be making their first ever appearance at Thunder Mountain Speedway. It’s been 5 years since IMCA Modifieds have been at the facility. Hot laps Saturday are slated to start at 6pm and racing to follow at 6:30pm. Come out and support the series but most importantly come out support a local race track and make sure you bring your friends!
